What happens when people look at the same issue and see something completely different?
Couples often call noting problems in communication. While this is certainly true, communication difficulties tend to be symptoms of other problems: most people do not simply suddenly lose their ability to communicate effectively with their partners. Instead, they find that their lives get more complicated, and problems come in, and then these tricky problems have them saying and doing things that are inconsistent with who they hope to be as partners.
In couples therapy, we focus on the problems and questions that couples face. Not all problems are solvable, nor are all questions answerable, but what we can do is be clear in how we wish to face our challenges and how we wish to move forward.
